Dr. Amado is a warm, creative, and goal-oriented therapist who works with children, teens, adults, and families navigating anxiety, OCD, phobias, and eating concerns, including picky eating, Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID), and other eating disorders. She brings a calm, genuine presence to therapy and often incorporates art, music, play, and digital tools to help clients feel engaged and comfortable in session.
Dr. Amado has extensive experience working with children, teens, parents, and adults across inpatient, partial, and outpatient settings. She draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), prioritizing strengths, collaborating closely with clients and families, and balancing acceptance with change. She also works with parents of children with anxiety and OCD using SPACE (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions), helping them respond to their child’s anxiety in ways that support confidence and long-term growth, and regularly collaborates with schools and other providers involved in the child’s care.
She has specialized training in Family-Based Treatment (FBT) for Anorexia and ARFID and CBT for ARFID (CBT-AR) and works closely with families navigating eating and feeding concerns. Across her work, she helps clients better understand their emotions and develop more self-compassionate ways of responding to them, while supporting clients as they take brave steps, engage in values-based activities, and build more fulfilling lives.
Dr. Amado provides therapy in both English and Turkish. As an immigrant and a member of the Jewish community herself, she brings personal insight into the experiences of immigrant families, bicultural identity, and the ways cultural and religious identity intersect with mental health. Her background, together with her work alongside marginalized communities, has shaped a clinical perspective that centers each client’s and family’s unique context, values, and strengths. She is deeply committed to providing affirming care to LGBTQ+ youth.
She offers in-person sessions in Brooklyn and Manhattan, as well as virtual therapy across New York State.
